Original School Plans

Original School Plans

Found in this week's Amazing Archives are drawings from the 1840s of the proposed Rossall School and the town of Fleetwood.
The original plans for the School look very different from how it actually turned out, as the focus was on building around the Rossall Hall. The planners clearly wanted multiple sports fields and many grand, wide driveways perfect for an evening promenade.

The writing that accompanies the image of Fleetwood sets out that it was an up and coming town with excellent transport links, that it had a hotel perfect for the upper classes and that the passing steamers were an amusement to visitors. For these reasons and others, it would be the perfect place for a boarding school.

These images give a unique insight into the area at the time of the School's creation.
