School Photograph Album

School Photograph Album

This is a photo album that belonged to former pupil Antony Vernon Haigh. It was recently donated to the archives by his niece after she uncovered it amongst some possessions. Antony attended Rossall from 1924- 1927 in Maltese Cross House. He was a keen sportsman with a passion for cricket, which enabled him to play in the school 1st XI. After leaving Rossall Antony went on to become a chartered accountant, and served in the Navy in World War Two.
The album contains many images of the school in the 1920s, most interesting of which are of the school sports day. All the events took place outside what is now Anchor House. They were very similar in nature to today, apart from the distinct lack of safety equipment especially in the high jump.
